Issue 2: The Empress Strikes Back

Our issue two cover was illustrated by the supremely talented
Dan Havardi.

Traditionally sequels are not as impressive as the original but we promise that issue 2 is going to be a whole lot more like The Godfather: Part II (1974) than Grease 2 (1982). Or more Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) than, you know, Mannequin on the Move (1991). Unless you liked Mannequin on the Move in which case we’re more than happy to include photos of the New Empress gang sporting denim jackets and leopard print vests.

Anyway. Issue 2 is our Golden Ticket Edition celebrating 40 years of Willy and the Wonka Factory (yes this does mean that you’ll have the chance to win Wonka chocolate). Inside you will find articles on the death of the double feature, what German film did for the sci-fi genre, why 80s teen rebels are missed, an interview with the original Veruca Salt, the best and worst werewolves, a flashback to Labyrinth, a historic feature on the Carlton Cinema of Islington and our very first comic strip. In addition to these and many other historical and critical articles you will find 10 carefully selected film reviews from the last quarter!  All this and more pages for your money? We are good to you. But that’s because we like you.

Issue two is now available for pre-order via our webshop.
