Issue 2 of New Empress Magazine is now available to pre-order. Orders will be sent out in approximately 2 weeks time. To give you a little taste of what is on offer in our Golden Ticket Edition we’re showcasing some exclusive illustrations from our wonderful creative team here at New Empress HQ.
This piece was created by Ian Blakeman and inspired by The Great White Silence (1924) which is one of our 10 carefully selected reviews in issue 2. The film, which has been beautifully restored by the BFI, charts Scott’s doomed mission to the South Pole.
This rather raunchy illustration was created by Stanley Chow. It was inspired by an article on Russ Meyer that appears in issue 2. The piece explores Meyer’s cult status and the lasting appeal of his work. Believe it or not there is a little bit more to it than boobs…
25 years of Labyrinth is reason enough for us to cover aspects of 80s cinema – and really we’ll use any excuse – and there’s plenty of fodder for fans of 80s films in issue 2. This illustration by Matt Harrower is inspired by the 80s-set film Take Me Home Tonight (2011) which is reviewed in issue 2. We’ve also got an article on 80s teen rebels and a Labyrinth-inspired comic strip.
In total Issue 2 boasts 80 pages of quality film coverage and illustration and, quite frankly, we can’t wait to hear what you think of it all! Pre-orders can be placed here.
