New character posters and trailer released for Sherlock Holmes sequel

By David Katz

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are set to return in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), a sequel to the 2009 Holmes film that burned up the box office that Christmas. The first installment was notable for cementing Downey’s credentials as a blockbuster headliner and doing the unthinkable in even resuscitating Guy Ritchie’s career (it takes a hardy soul to recover from a twosome of Revolver (2006) and RocknRolla (2008)).

This new incarnation of the Holmes character ditched the grit and heft of Arthur Conan Doyle’s original character and turned him into something approaching a wisecracking, Victorian James Bond. The sequel, which is out 16th December, brings some globetrotting elements into the mix as Holmes and Dr. Watson (Law) pursue evil mastermind Professor Moriarty (Mad Men’s Jared Harris) across the continent, from England to France, Germany, and finally Switzerland.

Take a look at the suitably action-packed trailer (turgid with that witty Holmes / Watson banter that made the first film so entertaining) and two character posters below. Whether or not the final product delivers I defy you not to get excited over these newly-released materials.

  1. Toby Kebbell as Johnny Quid is a star in RocknRolla, an excellent truly di-joined roller coaster of a film….. and he’s from Pontefract.

  2. This couldn’t possibly excite me less.

  3. What if it didn’t have Bob Downey in drag? Could it excite you less then ;o)

  4. RobcorpseEater

Can we have him solving mysteries instead of showing off his kung-fu skills this time?
